Effects of Demand Calculation: Hard Demand Only vs Item Class Settings

On the Item Classes screen, on the Replenishment Settings tab, there is a setting that governs Demand Calculation. There are two options for the users to choose. The first option is “Item Class Settings”, and the second option is “Hard Demand Only”.

 

When Hard Demand Only is chosen, the demand for the item is calculated as below:

Hard Demand = qty. SO Allocated + Qty. SO Shipped + Qty. SO Back-Ordered

Some businesses may require a more complicated demand calculations, such as, the demand should take into account Qty Booked (Sales Prepared), or Kit Assembly Demand, etc, as set up on the Availability Calculation Rules. If this is the case, then the Demand Calculation option should be set to Item Class Settings.
